But, what if all your emails are stored in a PST file located on your local hard drive??? If so, then it does not help you get your PST files backed up if you won’t have an exchange server. If you have taken a full backup of your PST file then no need to worry as you can restore the data from backup file when you lose it. There are various reasons which make you essential to take a backup of PST file.
Outlook 2007 crashes: When you try to open Outlook 2007 to read some emails, it takes a lot of time to open the main panel. After some time, it starts hanging or does not respond and unexpectedly it gets turned off. After that, when you try to open it again, you will get error messages that do not allow you to access the PST file.
Virus attacks: Although Outlook 2007 now has significantly higher levels of virus protection than in previous outlook versions, it does not mean that you are safe. One of the most rampant viruses is Klez Virus which uses its own SMTP engine. It does not care of the high security prompts in Outlook 2007 at all. In addition to that, it spoofs the addresses so that no one really should know where the original infection has started. If your PST file gets severely infected by this virus then it becomes inaccessible resulting in loss of emails.
Improper System shutdown: If you have accidentally turned off the system without turning off the Outlook 2007 then your PST file may get corrupted. When you turn off the system, all your programs get automatically terminated. But, sometimes, if Outlook 2007 do not able to respond quickly due to some reasons then your system terminate that program forcefully due to which your PST file may get corrupted.
In all these situations, if you have a backup of PST file then without any problem you can restore the lost Outlook data. Therefore, PST file backup is necessary. If the PST file is very large then the manual process of taking a backup may take a lot of time. Sometimes, the manual backup process fails to backup the settings and all other attributes of Outlook.
